The past 18 months have forced us to take a long hard look at our priorities. This has meant defining or redefining what is truly important to us – family, friends, freedom, time, nature, connections, and so much more.
When we face so much change, we tend to re-evaluate not only what’s important to us today but what’s important to us in the future; it’s an opportunity to look at what in our life supports our new direction. This includes evaluating our homes, especially now that we are spending so much more time there.
It’s a basic tenet of feng shui that our environment affects us on deep levels. It can be a welcoming, warm space or a chaotic and harried space or even a sterile and cold space. None of these are bad in and of themselves unless they don’t align with what you want for your life. For example, a welcoming and warm space to some could feel like a cluttered and stifling home to another. What’s important is to understand how you want your home
to support you – even if it’s simply as a pit stop on the way to exotic lands or great adventures.
Feng shui can help by aligning the chi or life force of your space, which you can feel every time you walk in, with your goals and aspirations. Feng shui is the art of adjusting the flow of energy and directing it in a balanced way to support your dreams. It’s a valuable practice at any time of your life, but especially when you’ve experienced significant change like we have during this pandemic.
So where to begin? The answer is with what you want, your dreams and goals, your intentions. Define them specifically, make a list of all that’s changed for you, what you’ve learned from it and how that has shifted what you want in your life. Or you might create a vision board – a collage of images that represent your dreams. If neither of these work for you, meditate on it – or if you like, you can contact me. I can guide you through several techniques to help you better understand what it is you truly want and ways to incorporate them into your home. (It’s a unique aspect of Instinctive Feng Shui®.)
Once you’ve defined your intentions, you can start in several places, but I’d recommend first looking at your front door because this is the mouth of chi – the place where the energy first enters the home. Now consider what it’s like walking up to the door and answer these questions:
- Is there an easy and clear path to reach your front door?
- Is the door clearly visible from the street?
- Is everything in working order or are repairs needed?
- Does your entry lift your energy the closer you get to opening the door?
If you answered no to any of those questions, it’s time to make the changes that will allow you to answer yes to each one. If you’d like help on how feng shui can guide these changes, reach out to me at bill@fengshui-24.com.
If you’re looking for a deeper understanding of feng shui contact me and I would be glad to share more.
