Welcome to June!

Every month, we pull an oracle card as the theme for the month. For June, the card pulled is from The Sacred Forest Deck: The Miracles Card. The image on it is of Rainbows and Waterfalls.

Waterfalls are important to me. It turns out that “Linn” (my surname) means “waterfall.” And remarkably, I was married while standing under a waterfall – the water was cascading over us as the judge declared us married.

Here’s the thing about Miracles; they don’t usually arise out of planning and preparing and making detailed lists. More often they come out of Trust and Faith. They emerge out of being willing to let go of the way that you think things should happen. And this is certainly true for my relationship with the man that I was standing under the waterfall with 51 years ago –   and whom I’m still married to. To me this is a miracle.

To make a long story short, I had a boyfriend at the time when I married David. Robin was a wonderful guy, but I wasn’t sure he was the “one,” and I was starting to wobble in the relationship.

As a result, I decided that I needed to attend a motivational seminar during  which, almost as a kind of self-help exercise, the teacher told me to ask the man next to me to marry him. I went along with it, not really thinking that he was serious – it was a motivational seminar after all. Amazingly (and to my absolute shock) the man next to me said, “Yes”.

The seminar leader then relentlessly goaded me about keeping my word, until I finally declared, “Okay I’ll get married tomorrow!” . . . which I did . . .  under a waterfall.

Looking back, this was all truly a miracle. David didn’t fit my idea of the man I would marry. But in that moment in the seminar, when I let go of all my preconceived ideas and surrendered to faith and truly trusted what I was feeling (instead of what my mind was telling me) I found my splendid husband of 51 years. (And incidentally Robin became the godfather of Meadow, the daughter that David and I had.)

Letting go is hard, especially when we have waited so long for our miracle to come, but often, in the moment when you truly surrender and fall into faith and trust, this is when miracles can bloom.

Are there some miracles that you have been waiting for, for a long time? Maybe instead of being disappointed with your plans not coming true, maybe take a deep breath, surrender and sink into faith that your life is unfolding as it should. Sometimes this makes all the difference.

On this lovely June day, I’m sending you rainbows, waterfalls and most of all miracles!

Love,  Denise
