Early on, I vowed that I would never be a teacher like so many of my relatives, including my parents, had been. Anytime anyone would bring up the possibility, I immediately and confidently said, “No,” and didn’t even consider it. Yet, so many times, I found myself in a situation where I was teaching, whether it was while volunteering or helping out friends. Still, I refused to consider that teaching was something I ever wanted to do professionally. Yet, it continued to pop back up in images, signs, and opportunities. Whether I was volunteering or working anywhere, what did I find myself doing? Teaching. Eventually, I formally entered the world of education and still feel and now acknowledge my call to teach – whether it be teaching feng shui and space clearing, Soul Coaching® or a number of other areas about which I am now passionate.

What do you do when you are called to do something? How do you know it’s for you? Each sacred journey begins with “Answering the Call.” There is a sign, a knowing, or a feeling that the path is for you. Even when you ignore the call, whether out of resistance, fear, judgment, or something else, the Universe will find a way to bring it forward for you until you answer. The more a call is ignored, the louder the ringer will become. So, what can you do to be more aware of your call and how to respond?

  1. Be Present to the Signs: Signs can come in any moment and at any “volume.” It may even be in response to a question that has not yet been asked. When we are busy running around “doing,” we may miss a sign when it first comes. It is much easier to recognize and acknowledge the signs when we are BE-ing present with ourselves and our environments. Listen to your heart. Look at what surrounds you. Feel your emotions. Our bodies give us clues all the time about which path to take if we are quiet enough to listen.

  1. Release Judgements: In my experience, one reason I have not recognized signs because I have carried judgements – judgements about how they should look, sound, feel, their timing and more. Remember, each time we miss the sign, a bigger, louder one will be sent. What is meant for us will come, whether we take the straight, short road or the long, curvy one with detours. And along with releasing judgment is forgiveness. This is a time to move forward with the signs, not to regret those we may have missed or ignored nor to engage in self-criticism.

  1. Take action: Once we recognize a sign, it is time to take action. It is not the time to decide to wait for three or more new signs (that are also ignored) before taking action. The time to take action is now! It does not matter if you feel ready or not, whether you believe that you know enough or have had enough experiences. Take intentional action in baby or big steps and enjoy each moment of your journey!

Once you are present with a sign and embrace its message without judgement, you are ready to take action. Be open to answering your call!
