There’s one thing that can help you feel better right now:
Let something go.
That feels like a bold statement. One I’m already tempted to delete…or at least tone down.
And yet, I know it’s true. Letting go is the single most powerful way to move forward when life is swirling with uncertainty.
For me, letting go and trusting doesn’t come naturally. I’m more of a hold-on-for-dear-life kind of person. Which is why I’m always turning to my house for help.
There’s a kind of magic that happens between our homes and our lives. When we shift the energy of one, the other begins to shift too.
So if you also find yourself clinging to what’s no longer working or holding your breath while waiting for things to change, I invite you to try something simple: declutter with me.
Because when you let go of physical things that no longer serve you, you create momentum. You’re also symbolically releasing old emotions, beliefs, and identities that are ready to be shed.
Your decluttering becomes a quiet manifesto: a statement about what you’re done tolerating, where you’ve healed, and how you’re expanding your capacity to receive.
To get you started, here’s my favorite playlist of decluttering tips:
MY TOP 15 DECLUTTERING TIPS (in no particular order)
- The 3 most direct questions to ask when decluttering:
Do I love it?
Do I need it?
Do I use it?If the answer is no let it go.
- Ask yourself: How does this make me feel?
If the feeling doesn’t align with how you want to feel let it go. - Focus on what’s yours.
Other people’s stuff is a shiny distraction. Start with what you can control. - Too many things in too small a space = clutter.
Your belongings need room to breathe, just like you. - Stop waiting for the perfect decluttering day.
It probably won’t come. Instead, commit to just 10 minutes a day. - Match your decluttering to your energy.
If you thrive when the sun goes down, don’t commit to decluttering before you’ve had your morning cup of coffee. Work with your natural rhythms.7. Start in your bedroom.
In feng shui, your bedroom reflects your inner self. You deserve to come first. (Bonus: you’ll sleep better too.) - Begin with the easy wins.
Empty Amazon boxes. Junk mail. Dead plants. Clearing the obvious creates immediate space and boosts your energy for more. - Don’t let donation bags linger.
Once you’ve decided to let go, follow through. When those things linger in a corner, so does their draining energy. - Stop saying, “I know what’s in there.”
You may not. Peek inside the pile/box/drawer. You’ll likely be surprised. - Beware of the “just in case” trap.
You’ll declutter something and suddenly “need” it. Regret kicks in. You vow to keep everything. Don’t fall for it. This is just your lizard brain trying to convince you that lions, tigers, and bears are on your doorstep. - Repeating clutter means something deeper.
Ask: If this clutter had a message for me, what would it be? - Even pretty things can be clutter.
Like ice cream, too much of a good thing is still too much. - Unloved gifts are still clutter.
You can honor the gift giver and release the gift. Both things can be simultaneously true. - Create decluttering rules to ease decision fatigue.
Try: “I’m only keeping clothes that feel good right now.” Or, “I’m letting go of any book I haven’t read in five years.” This helps reduce the number of decisions you need to make.
Decluttering is its own kind of prayer. It’s a way of telling the Universe I trust you. I trust what’s next. I’m making space for the magic I can’t yet see.
