What’s Your Favorite Word?

Greetings Beloved Soul Travelers,

Every month an oracle card is pulled for the month ahead. For April, the card pulled was the GRACE card.

 This morning, I went to a clinic to get my blood drawn for a routine physical. I always like to go early to avoid a long wait. The sun wasn’t up and it was dark and foggy on the drive. However,  our dogs enjoy jaunts in the car, no matter what the weather, so they were along for the ride.

 Perhaps, because it was the early shift, the clinician was young and seemed to be new on the job. To put him at ease, I asked him about his tattoo. He rolled up his sleeve and proudly showed it to me. Block letters spelled “FAITH WITHIN.” I loved reading those words on his arm.

 He told me that FAITH was his favorite word and that his tattoo reminded him of his faith every day. I was thinking of the words of his tattoo as I drove home. The sun pierced the fog, and wisps of mists swirled up off the road, as I then mused about my favorite word.

 For many years my best loved word has been GRACE. Grace can mean many things, but to me, it means being gracious and kind . . . when a normal response might be to erupt with anger or frustration. It can mean being compassionate and showing forgiveness, even when it seems that someone or something doesn’t deserve it. These are things that I strive for in my life, but I don’t always achieve.

Whenever I think of the word GRACE, it’s a reminder to be gracious with myself, as well as with others. It’s my North Star, reminding me that even in the hardest times, the power of grace can guide me in the right direction. (I’m even pondering getting a tattoo that says ‘GRACE WITHIN’. I’ll let you know if I do.)
