Remember when you were a child and would lose yourself in an activity, riding your bike with the local neighbourhood kids or getting out your crayons and creating the most imaginative artwork? You were so curious about life and the excitement of being alive that you didn’t have to think; you just knew what you were passionate about and wholeheartedly lived it. One of the most common questions I get asked as a Soul Coaching(R) Practitioner is, “I don’t know what my life purpose is or what I want to do with the rest of my life”. One of the fastest ways to seek out these answers for yourself is to look back at what used to light you up as a youngster and what exhilarates and excites you to the core in the present.
The recent change in season always gets me to think about the season ahead from a spiritual perspective and then work this into the physical. I live in the Southern Hemisphere, so we have moved into Autumn. While the leaves are starting to change their hue from Summer’s green to shades of gold, crimson and brown, I watch as they gently fall from the trees and witness what it is inside of me that I am to shed and release in the time to come, making space for an even brighter version of myself.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. Ever since I was a little girl, I’d make up stories in my head and then journal or create scripts for plays, imagining that someday my stories would appear on stage somewhere, where characters would come to life through my words.
It’s interesting how often we may witness what we were passionate about as a child as a great indicator of what we can pursue in our adult life to bring more joy (both to ourselves and others) or even turn into a career prospect.
Writing is something that I can lose myself in, and time floats by effortlessly. Take a moment to consider the activities that you find yourself absorbed in, the things that light you up inside and where time and space simply drift away. These are your light bulbs, your beacons to guide you toward all that excites you and brings out more of your authentic self.
Last year I actualised a dream of mine to publish a book. While it may not have been the screenplays I’d write as a child, it was my words of women’s self-help that was born. In my book, SEEDS for TOMORROW, I help women bridge the gap between the woman that is, that was and will be. We are all on a learning path, letting go of the old, outdated versions of ourselves and upgrading our internal software to bring to life the passion inside of us that will ultimately lead us to our most empowered selves.
Here are some effective journal prompts for you to get curious about where your passion lies and how you can use this powerful energy source to create new pathways for yourself:
- If I had a spare afternoon, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to spend it doing…
- The things in life that make me feel alive, and excited, and I could talk about for hours are…
- I lose track of time when I…
- The things that make me feel most at peace and content in my life are…
- A hobby I’d love to devote more time to is…
- The people who inspire me in life are…
These journal prompts are a great way to start the creative juices flowing, and quite often, you may surprise yourself with what comes out on the page. I particularly like the final prompt about inspiration as quite often what inspires us or the people that inspire us are great indicators of areas that speak directly to our soul.
Through self-enquiry and becoming more curious, we can help navigate our way to creating a life that brings more joy, abundance, and happiness by understanding that our passions can indeed become successful pursuits.
