“I’m sorry, but there’s just no heartbeat.” These are the dreaded words every pregnant woman fears hearing. These were the words I heard, and then everything within me turned numb and a sense of emptiness washed over me.

The poet Rumi says that “The wound is where the light enters you.” Yet in that period of my life, through the pain, the sadness, the grief, the heartbreak, little did I know that in that specific moment I was heading toward a major spiritual turning point in my life.

Losing my much wanted baby through miscarriage was one of the hardest moments of my life. However, beyond the other side of this pain and sorrow I found an inner strength I never knew existed.

This trauma enabled me to find a sense of resilience, tenacity and the determination knowing that I may have been knocked down by life’s challenges but it was not how the story would end. I would not remain hurt or battle scarred for an extended period of time, I would find a way to ignite my inner flame and build my emotional endurance back up. To find a way in which to use my inner wound as a means to rise above. Now, almost 15 years later I can certainly look back upon this time of heartache and see the wisdom within the wound and to witness the power it took for me to turn this sorrow into strength.

So often in life we find ourselves in situations where we may be at a cross road or life throws us a huge curve ball that we didn’t see coming. In these moments we can choose to have the storm completely obliterate us or we can become strong with our roots firmly planted within the depth of Mother Earth, so that we remain standing despite any turbulence or uneven footing. From this place of being solid and grounded we can use that inner strength and power to surge forward like a fierce warrior, determined to conquer life’s quest.

How one chooses to connect with their inner strength is a unique learning pathway, I found meditation to be my savour and the solid foundation in which to seek healing, forgiveness and the strength to move forward.

Finding small pockets of time throughout your day to connect to spirit within can help you overcome any challenge you may be experiencing.

Where can you find moments of stillness throughout your day to connect within, to hear the messages of your soul? Perhaps it’s finding clarity by taking a stroll out in nature, looking up to the vast sky above, noticing the messages in the clouds drifting by. Or maybe it’s seated on your meditation cushion created in your morning ritual of inner connection. Moments of stillness may be found in a multitude of spiritual connection; the crucial key is to listen to the wisdom of your soul within these moments.

What obstacles have you overcome in your own life and where can you witness the strength you found along the way? While you are in the midst of chaos or life’s challenges it can be difficult to navigate your way through, however upon reflection as the darkness fades and light returns you can observe just how strong you actually are and always have been. During these times of challenge, find your way through by drawing upon your inner strength.

Each and every one of us has the ability to develop inner strength, it gives you the opportunity to remain calm, centred and focused while dealing with the obstacle at hand. Journalling is another way in which to help express your thoughts and feelings during times of difficulty. Journalling can help you let go of things beyond your control and put into perspective the areas you can. Use the following journal prompts to help you connect to your inner strength and bring peace and clarity in the process:

Today I choose to let go of the following…

I witness the strength I have inside me to get through this challenge by acknowledging the following positive aspects of have learned about myself through this experience…

When I think about my strengths and the courage to move forward in life it makes me feel…

Three things I can do in the next week to connect to spirit within are…

Drawing upon my strength enables me to take courage in the following areas of my life…

Life experiences will constantly help you build on developing your inner strength. The trauma of losing a baby through pregnancy loss was a difficult one, but in the process it taught me so much about myself and for that I am forever grateful.

Within every inner wound there are pearls of wisdom to be found. Use your wounds to realise just how powerful and strong you truly are and use this strength to lead from within. You are stronger than you may realise. Look inside and witness the fact that any challenge you may be experiencing right now is building the strength required for your tomorrow.
