Imagine floating down a river, maybe on a small raft or an inner-tube,  just enjoying watching the clouds, the scenery, and the beauty around you. Imagine going someplace new, without having to paddle, push or swim.  Wouldn’t it be nice if life could have that same ease and flow?

If you like to have control over things… flowing down the river without a ‘game plan’, ‘map’, ‘agenda’ or ‘arrival time’ might feel uncomfortable or downright scary. Yet, somehow in life you are on that flowing river… without the paddle and the map… How can you relax into that flow that the universe has for you now? How can you TRUST that you will like your new destination?  The secret is to truly be in the present moment and enjoy the journey.  Ancient people knew how to work with the uncertainty…. And that was to know that everything in nature flows in a cycle.

The Medicine Wheel is a Native American concept that teaches that everything is always changing, and that all aspects of the cycle are needed. A Medicine Wheel teaches us the beauty of the energy of a new day, the passion of working on something you love during the day, the enjoyment of celebrating your accomplishments and gifts at sunset, and the sweet restorative energy of night and dreamtime connections to our guides. It’s also representing the energy of spring, summer, autumn and winter.  The actual compass directions bring us the energy of those different times of day, or seasons of the year. It teaches that there is a time for focus/planning, direction and work, and a time for gratitude, relaxing and dreaming.

So many times in modern life, we are stuck on a hamster wheel of continuing to do do do… and we lack the balance needed.

In Medicine Wheel feng shui , we honor that to have a balanced life, we need to honor all aspects of the cycle within our life and home. Continuing to just plan and do, without the energy of gratitude and relaxation is not balanced or healthy.

The message of the Flowing River teaches us to let go and receive what the universe is sending – that Life is not just about the push and the plan. Life is also about the sweetness of being in the moment of new adventures and allowing ourselves to be restored and renewed.

Now let’s bring this energy of the cycle of the Medicine Wheel, the cycle of nature, and more balance into your home:

  1. In the East, place a representation of something new you would like to start. Or place a symbol like an egg there to honor this energy of new beginnings.
  2. In the South, place representation of what you love doing, it could be a hobby or what you do for your career. If you don’t love what you do for money, then focus on something that would bring you joy to spend time and energy on doing.
  3. In the West, place representation of what you have accomplished, or what you have gratitude for in life. It’s a perfect place to represent with angels or other beings you are grateful for.
  4. In the North, place representation of rest, sleep, dreams or what gives you relaxation. Maybe photos from a favorite relaxing vacation, or images of a place you would like to visit to relax.

Step into the flow….

By honoring the ‘yin’ or receptive part of the cycle, we bring a much needed balance into our modern life. Be present in the moment of life. See where it leads you. It might be so much better than what you had planned.
