I’ve been working in the corporate world for more than 20 years. In all transparency it has not always been a joyride. There have been some amazing people along this journey and I have excelled in the work, but there were many times I felt in order to feel true happiness, I needed to leave and do the spiritual work I love.

From a practical perspective I couldn’t leave, so I’ve done the next best thing by finding ways to bring my spiritual work into the business world. This has come in the form of feng shui lunch and learns, regular guided meditations, including small in-person sessions and an online session to more than 300 people around the globe, reiki sessions, space clearings of multiple offices, and developing soul coaching workshops.

On top of this, I continue to work with clients on their homes, offer public courses, support clients in their personal journeys to listen to their souls and develop new classes.

I get joy from this work because it is what I love to do. I feel it when I’m doing the work, but I admit there are times I forget about the joy and even feel I won’t find it again.

I’ve taken some steps though to help me remember, perhaps these will help you as well:

  1. Daily Joy. Find something that gives you joy every day or reminds you what does bring you joy. I’ve done this by drawing a daily oracle cards representing the energy of the day, and sharing it on my Facebook page. The intent of the card draw is to encourage people to take advantage of the energy for that day. The feedback has been amazing with people sharing their gratitude for the messages and how much the cards seem to be the perfect card for them at the time.
  2. Own the Joy. So many times when we feel something, we don’t take a moment to recognize it, realizing what we’re feeling. Sometimes that means other people need to call it out for us. The other night, I was eating a bowl of ice cream – vanilla, with caramel and chocolate sauce, and whip cream. Suddenly my wife said to me, “you have so much joy on your face” and I didn’t even realize it. I was just enjoying the ice cream but she was right, as I paid attention to my body (huge smile) and emotions, such satisfaction and comfort and yes even glee in this special treat. I was in a state of joy, and I was grateful. These moments remind us what joy feels like and we can use them later to draw even greater joy to us.
  3. Make time for Joy. This can be a hard one, when our lives are so busy and we have so many responsibilities, caretaking and muggle tasks on our plates. Still, it doesn’t have to take time. I’ll step outside and walk barefoot in the grass, breathe fresh air and just look at the trees leaves swaying. I’ll take time to hold my cat, listening to him purr, or scratch my 60-pound lap dog’s belly. Or I’ll just make myself some tea. Take 5 or 10 minutes multiple times a day or week. It starts by understanding what will bring you joy and making it a priority.

So whether it’s daily oracle cards (love Denise’s Sacred Destiny and Time Traveler Oracle cards), feeling the joy when it creeps up on you or finding time to enjoying nature, find your joy, honor it and repeat. You’ve got this!
