There’s an Instagram account I follow called Farmluxe. It’s my daily eye candy.
Each reel is filled with flowers upon flowers dancing in front of the landscape of the San Juan Islands.
Absolutely every time I see one of their posts, I say to myself…
I want to live there.
Followed by…
I can’t move.
My husband and I frequently have the moving conversation, and each time we circle back to the same spot. It’s not the right time. My youngest has two more years in a high school he loves, and my mom who I care for lives in a retirement community five minutes away.
For the longest time, this has left my soul feeling frustrated and cranky.
But then the other day as I was mowing my grass, a thought popped into my mind…
I can buy myself flowers. (cue Miley Cyrus )
I don’t have to move to begin creating my dream vision. I had gotten locked into all or nothing thinking. The choice had become the manifestation of my vision with the renovated farmhouse surrounded by fields of flowers and mountains OR my cookie cutter house with the neighbors a tad too close. Since moving isn’t currently in the cards for us, my vision was more like a splinter hijacking my joy than something I had confidence manifesting.
Until the Universe gently whispered….you can begin creating your vision now. You don’t have to wait for the flowers you adore.
I felt like I was handed a giant permission slip. I no longer had to put my dream of being surrounded by flowers on hold. I could begin pursuing it now even if I couldn’t change my address.
The funny thing is that prior to my “whisper” I didn’t think there was any place in my yard for a field of flowers. But once I opened my mind to the possibility, I realized that I had an entire side of my house (that gets lots of sun) without any landscaping. It’s like a giant blank canvas that’s calling for a flower garden. Without even moving, I can begin crafting the environment that my soul craves.
What about you?
Where have your put your joy on hold?
Is there something you long for, but it seems elusive or out of reach?
And more importantly, what step can you take today to bring this joy into your life?
Here’s the magic. Your home is a mirror of your life. It can become a reflection of the joy you want to experience. Once you name what brings you joy, you can then take the steps to bring this joy into your home in a very real or symbolic way. For me, I’m beginning to create my dream by planting a flower garden along an entire side of my home. I’m also adding photographs inside my home of gorgeous mountains overlooking the sea. I’m creating the feeling I experience every time I scroll Farmluxe’s Instagram page.
What can you add to your home that will reflect the joy you want to experience in your life?
If the idea of living by the sea brings you joy…
- Set your alarm music to ocean sounds, so waves are the first thing you hear in the morning.
If the idea of traveling in a camper van across the country brings you joy…
- Hang photographs throughout your home of the many places you want to travel to.
If the idea of camping in the woods brings you joy (and you live in the middle of a big city)…
- Dedicate a night to “camping out” in the living room complete with a sleeping bag, nature sounds, and smores over the stove.
If the idea of standing out from the crowd brings you joy…
- Hang original artwork in your home.
Use your imagination. You are not limited by your current circumstances. You can begin today by creating a home that reflects the joy that is your birthright.
