Catching the early morning train in my finely pressed corporate attire, my sleepy eyes were struggling to keep awake. My mind ablur alongside the sounds of screeching wheels on the railway tracks, the sight of business people reading the current events in the local newspaper, commuters listening to music on their “walk-mans” with me gently rocking to and fro with the comforting motion of the train’s movement. The tall city buildings venture into sight as the train pulls in and there’s a sudden rush of exhilaration as people hurriedly clamber out of the doors in a mad, bustling dash to get to the daily grind they call life.
This was me over 20 years ago, day in and day out within a working role that brought me limited joy, let alone fulfillment. Life was a series of work, sleep, party (to numb the feeling of living a somewhat unfulfilling life) and repeat. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a good party filled with beautiful conversation and a fun, lively atmosphere, but I no longer only live for the weekend and I no longer catch an early morning train filled with anxiety, living a life on monotonous, boring repeat.
While we may not always be able to instantly change our circumstances (be it in a job we don’t love, a relationship that has reached its limits or some other sense of unfulfillment) in every moment we have the opportunity to change our mindset toward a more positive outlook. Every small change we make today is empowering the person we become tomorrow. By bringing empowered action to move closer toward joy you enable a deeper sense of fulfillment within.
What and where is it in your life that brings you a sense of fulfillment?
Where do you find that time flies by while entranced in sheer bliss?
What activity did you love to do as a child, that perhaps you haven’t done in years, but would dearly love to reconnect with?
We live in a world today, particularly since the pandemic where we are finding that we want more out of life for our overall health and happiness. We want to achieve a sense of fulfillment within us and often times we may search outside of ourselves for things and people to make everything feel better. The truth is, fulfillment truly is an inside job. Material possessions and relationships that only serve to make you feel whole for a small period of time are a band-aid treatment. To feel completely fulfilled is to radiate from the inside out, knowing that all you ever need is inside of you. You have within your grasp the answers to everything you seek, the ability to live a life that is measured in cherished moments of love and a worthiness in the self-belief and knowingness that fulfillment is doing the things that bring you joy and light you up inside.
- What steps can you take today in order to make each day a little brighter for you?
- What rituals can you impart (be it meditation, yoga, tai-chi or some other form of relaxation) so that you may help clear your mind and restore your spirit?
- If there is a positive quality within you that you wish to nurture and help cultivate, what would it be and how can you encourage this abundant growth?
Your sense of fulfillment may be different to your fellow soul travellers and all is okay with this notion. Afterall, you are unique and you are worthy of allowing your soul to thrive in conditions that are distinctly created for you.
We learn and grow throughout the adventures of life and all our experiences teach us enormous wisdom. My life is now fulfilled in ways above and beyond all that I could have ever imagined by taking daily action toward its reality and life is now a giant leap away from what I exhibited 20 years prior. Where in your life can you take a step, a hop or a giant leap toward fulfilling your dreams and aspirations?
The figurative morning train I now catch to work involves a ritual of gratitude, meditation and serving others through the healing power of words and soul healing connection. My weekends are spent recharging my batteries in the beauty of the great outdoors and quality time with family and friends creating moments of happiness. Every day is a precious and cherished adventure, igniting the flames of creativity within.
Fulfillment is a means in which to allow the soul to sing, the heart to radiate and life to be filled with vitality, love and joy. Make a commitment to your soul’s growth by cultivating and nurturing the seeds of fulfillment within.
