I remember when first learning feng shui and space clearing from Denise a lesson that has carried me through in my work as a consultant, teacher and frankly, a human being.

She told us again and again that everything happens for a reason. So when you’re creating an altar to do a clearing in someone’s home and you spill water all over your altar; it happened for a reason. When you are driving away from a client after sharing a host of recommendations for balancing the energy of their home but you forgot the one key, most important in the world, recommendation; it happened for a reason. When train delays cause you to be 30 minutes late for that critical, can’t be missed meeting; it happened for a reason.

I have found this to be true on so many occasions that I have come to trust the truth of it. In the above, I came to realize that additional emotional healing was needed (the element of water is often tied to emotions and healing); I learned from my client that they were becoming overwhelmed by the sheer number of recommendations and one more would have kept them from implementing any of the changes; and that meeting I was so late for ended up being rescheduled.

I could name so many more times when similar situations proved to me that lesson. Enough to trust that yes, it’s true, everything does happen for a reason. There is a kicker though; you may never know the reason.

I’ll admit, it’s difficult to accept in light of the terrible things that happen in life; and there are plenty happening in our world every day; but even if I can’t explain why something happens, on a deep level I’ve come to trust that there’s a reason behind it. That trust can be comforting especially during times of chaos, when we’re looking for answers but none seem to appear.

I am so grateful for this lesson; one that has taught me to trust that not having all the answers doesn’t mean I can’t move forward with hope.
