Happy New Year! May this coming year be filled with blessings and miracles for you. And welcome to the Linn Academy newsletter! Every month an oracle card is pulled . . . and this month’s card is creativity. It feels like the perfect card to begin this new year.
Bali: on a hot sultry, early morning. I was taking an early morning stroll on an almost empty beach. The gentle surf felt warm as it rolled over my feet. This was surprising to me as I was used to the cold Pacific ocean surf of California where I live.
Not far down the beach, I saw a Balinese woman crouched over in the sand. She was making a small boat out of woven palm leaves. On this Indonesian Island offerings are made to float in the sea, which are essentially small baskets filled with flowers, rice, food and incense. They are placed in the ocean as a way to seek blessings. The Balinese believe these offerings invite the Gods down to the island.
As I watched her carefully adjust the various items in the basket “boat,” I could feel the creativity flowing through her. I was in awe. The radiant energy around her was palpable.
I had a spiritual teacher who asserted that Creativity was Receptivity. He said the way to get closer to God was to be creative, because in the moments when you disappear and allow creativity to flow through you, you are allowing the energy of the Creator into your life.
I’ve never forgotten his words. When I’m creative, I know that he is right. I literally can feel the living life force of the Creator fill me.
To activate your creativity, try this: Sit down with some colored pencils, put some music on and then allow colors, shapes and images to emerge on the paper, without thought of something looking good. Just disappear into the process. Let it flow. Most often there comes a point when you can feel the radiance of the divine come close.
As her small boat entered the waves, I could feel the Spirit of the Divine enter my heart, and I was grateful for the moment.
