Our message this month is about the energy of Grace; and a huge aspect of that is Kindness. This quality is one that our world desperately needs right now. You can create that energy of Grace and Kindness with Feng Shui in your home!

There is an old joke that is advice for newly married…. “When you have an argument with your beloved, do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?”  Funny… and it embodies a great reminder about grace and kindness. Creating an energy of grace is not always about winning the argument and being right. It is about listening and understanding another’s viewpoint.

As we come to the holiday season, looking at how we can make our homes more filled with grace could create a peaceful and kind holiday gathering.

So, how can we create a Feng Shui of kindness in our homes?

1.Be Kind To Self: Make your entry into the home beautiful. We do a lot with the front door and entry way for good feng shui, but in this situation, I want you to focus on where YOU enter your home. This might be through a garage, a side porch, or back door. Does this welcome you? Does it look inviting, smell divine, and invite you in? Or does it look like a dumping ground of work? Take an afternoon, clutter clear,  organize, and create what is beautiful for you in this space. And, if you have not creates a nurturing space in your bedroom, that is another key spot for self nurturing kindness. Sheets that feel great, soaps that smell nice, and the removal of all things that feel like they diminish you.

2.Be Kind to Family: If you live alone, I hope you have already made the home feel supportive and great for you. When you live with others, with feng shui eyes, look at how the home functions for everyone in your family. ( four footed family too). Does everyone have a place at the table, a place to relax? Are the artwork and photos in the home uplifting to all? Are the colors ones that everyone can enjoy? Having everyone represented in the home is the first step to grace. Think of everyone as important, and honor their likes and perspectives.

3.Be Kind to Guests: In the common areas of the home, notice what you might not normally notice… what does it feel like to sit where your guests sit? What do they see, what do they feel or smell? While our homes should reflect our personal beliefs, we also want to be gracious in knowing that our guests may not be as comfortable with some of those same beliefs. Notice what books, magazines, tv shows, etc. are on display or in their view. Sit in their spot, and arrange to have uplifting and kind vibes there. Play music with uplifting messages. Notice the textures, and add softness to where they sit.

4.Be Kind to Others: This can be the hard one. How to be kind to the people you are sure are ‘wrong’? They may not be in your home, but you can carry the energy of your encounters with them or beliefs about them into your home. The key is Forgiveness and understanding that we don’t always know what is going on for someone else. Do you have something in your home that reminds you to step into the energy of compassion, forgiveness, and kindness? I have Kwan Yin statues in my home. She is the Chinese goddess of compassion. Her presences reminds me to work with a nonjudgmental heart, and to practice the power of listening and forgiveness.

It might not feel like it can change the world when you create a feng shui of kindness in your home. I truly believe that when you create a wonderful energy in your space, it changes you , and then that emanates out into the world. You can be the change. Kindness starts at home.

There is an ancient Chinese Proverb that states:

If there is light in the soul,
There will be beauty in the person.

If there is beauty in the person,
There will be harmony in the house.

If there is harmony in the house,
There will be order in the nation.

If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world.

I can’t wait to hear how you have created some Grace and Kindness in your space!

Love, LuAnn
