If I asked you to look at the air, where would you look? Most people would look up to the sky. We tend to think of the world of Air as the realm above us. The home of birds and butterflies and clouds and rainbows. It’s the heavens of the sun, the moon and the stars. It’s up. When we offer sage, incense or any smudge wafting up to the heavens, it sends our prayers, hopes and dreams. Air is also the realm of scent which travels on the currents of air and become a part of us as we breath in; and sound where are bodies bask in the waves of vibrations carried through the air.
Invoking the Spirit of Air into your life can enhance your mental clarity. Our mental state is associated by many native cultures with the element of air. Perhaps thats why taking a deep breath out can help clear away the mental clutter, allowing us to both relax and focus. It’s one the of the many reasons that yoga, qigong or Forest Therapy can be such powerful practices.
Have you heard the expression that things are ‘looking up’? Perhaps you have heard of Amy Cuddy, TED talk presenter and social scientist, with her research on body power positions. The body positions of low power are looking down, and the high power are head held high and even looking up to the sky. These power positions of expansion and looking up change the chemicals within our body to shift our outlook, and amazingly also how other perceive us. Just another reason to look up to the Spirit of Air!
There are many ways to simply call the Spirit of Air into our lives. See how many you can use today:
- Using essential oils disused in your space to enjoy the power of plants as well as the qualities of air
- Open your windows ( conditions permitting) and enjoy the air of nature
- Light incense and watch the smoke drift through the amazing air around you
- Watch the birds for signs and messages
- Watch the clouds drift for 10 minutes
- Take a stroll in the forest, noticing the scents in the air, songs of the birds and the clouds in the sky
- Play birdsong in your home
- Use a feather to clear your space
- Practice slow deep breathing for 10 minutes
Do a combination of several of the above items to supercharge the Spirit of AIR in your life. Celebrate the Spirit of Air, and you might find that things are really looking up in life!
Much Love,
LuAnn
