We expected our home to sell quickly when we put it on the market. It was an awesome place to live and very loved. Well, when we reached the end of our second month on the market with no offers and even a period of time with infrequent showings, I began to become discouraged. And though I had already done a great deal of clutter clearing, I got several messages pointing me towards clutter clearing in the basement of the house. In the basement were the “I’ll get to it later” projects, supplies for those projects, old classroom supplies and also many things that just didn’t belong anywhere else in the house. When I spend any time in the space, I weighed down and stuck so I decided to clear out things I hadn’t used in the last year.

After the clutter clearing was finished, the basement felt light and airy. I felt a sense of lightness and ease – like a pressure had dissipated. A few days after clutter clearing and rearranging what was left, my phone began buzzing again with notifications for house showing requests.  Just before the contract expired on the home we wanted to buy; we received an offer on our home. Although there was a great deal to be done, it all happened in a short amount of time, and we moved into our new home just prior to the Stay at Home orders. Looking back, I can see that the unused objects related to my past that were stored in the basement were keeping us rooted in that house and not moving forward.

Clutter can be anything that clogs our energy – from physical objects to old beliefs or emotions we have hidden by not acknowledging them. Clutter clogs flows and prevents life from flowing with grace and ease. It represents resistance, denial, and distrust that the Universe will support us in all aspects of our lives. Clutter can be plainly obvious or it can sneak in over time when we become busy and not present to the things we choose to surround ourselves with.

When we release clutter with intention, we are stepping into the flow of life, expressing our willingness to move with the current. We are sending a message and energy out that we are open to new possibilities. Reflect on how you feel in your spaces as well as what you’d like to experience in your life. If those two don’t match up, it may be time to release some clutter.

When you are ready to make room for more flow in your life,

  1. Choose a space to clear
  2. Reflect on how you’d like to feel in that space & visualize what you want the space to look like
  3. Create an intention that focuses your clutter clearing. For example, in my basement, it was my intention to clear clutter in order to experience clarity, freedom and joy.

Be intentional, focus on the new energy you are welcoming in and release those things that are not in alignment with the vision you have created for your space. Once the space is clutter free, be ready to embrace flow and support of the Universe.
