by Lisa Morton  Master Teacher of Interior Alignment®

There was a time when I lived for the rush… the kind of chaos that comes with busy airports, deadlines, and design boards sprawled across hotel room floors. As a luxury aircraft designer, I traveled the world working on projects. I craved the stress, the adrenaline of high expectations and the thrill of solving big problems. I mistook that pace for passion and I believed that stillness meant I just wasn’t doing enough.

But the harder I worked, the more I began to feel something unsettling in my body. The interiors I crafted were stunning, yet at times I felt disconnected. I could add gorgeous details in outrageous materials but there was an emptiness that I couldn’t explain.

When I began my training in Interior Alignment® back in 2014, I felt a shift. I felt home in a way. It wasn’t just about how to arrange a space, it was about how to listen to it. My training with LuAnn Cibik taught me that every space holds a frequency, and that the energy we bring into a room is as important as the color on the walls. I began to sense the difference between designing something beautiful and crafting a space of harmony and support.

For the first time, I also allowed myself to slow down. I found stillness. I found the pause before changing a layout. I learned to listen before rearranging. I also began to notice the invisible.

Clients would tell me they wanted a fresh start. This might be new bedroom furniture, a more inspiring office, or a lighter overall feeling in their home. But underneath these design goals, what they were really craving was a sense of peace and stillness.

When I walk into a space now, I can feel where the energy has settled, where it’s stuck, and where it wants to flow. My work has become less about doing and more about being quiet.

These days, I no longer chase a flight or the next big project. My life has slowed into something even more valuable. I savor the morning light that pours in through my own kitchen  windows, my dog’s noseprints on the glass door, and the way the air feels after a space clearing.

Stillness has become my true north. It’s not empty, it’s full of presence and intention. Now I connect with stillness to guide every client meeting, every wall color decision, and even every plant placement. Stillness isn’t empty. It’s full of presence, intention, and peace.
