The winter season is fast approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, and there is a steady trickle of holidays from now until the New Year.  Winter is a traditional time for going inward, telling stories, and spending time doing chores that are left undone when we are more often outdoors in the warmer weather.  Or perhaps it is just the amount of light. I don’t know about you, but when it has already been dark for a few hours by 7 pm, I am pretty sure it is bed time.  This is why winter is considered a time for dreaming.

Some of you will be taking a deep breath as the busy month of December gears up to her full throttle, and bump down with a shock into 2025 like a traveler on an overnight flight abroad.  January can arrive with you feeling bleary and confused, short on sleep, and having eaten too much cheese- or maybe that is just me.  I want to encourage you to spend a little time right now, early in December to prepare for the landing into the new year.

This month’s card is titled Success, and in the new beautiful Soul Coaching®  deck it features an alluring city in the clouds up a very long flight of stairs.  It is clearly a magical place, and the fulfillment of some very wonderful wishes. And this card can be just the ticket to a smoother landing into the new year.

I would like to encourage you to take one of these long evenings that we are having and dream of what it would be like in that castle in the sky for you- but more practically how you would FEEL standing there at the top of those stairs, or even in one of the rooms that are in one of the high towers.  Oh the view you would have! Take some of the winter moments to dream of your eventual success.

That part is really fun, but I can’t ignore the steps that are leading up to that city in the clouds.  These are the steps that you take to your success, and even if you start with a light heart and a head full of hope, you may need some encouragement on the way up.  Plan for that to! The Affirmation that accompanies this card is “Success fills my life in ways beyond my greatest expectations!” ®  One of the ways that I encourage myself to feel successful on the path to greater success is to recognize the triumphs that I have had.  For me this looks like what I call a life table.

I spend time in the end of November and early December gathering bits and pieces from my property, dried grasses from the field, cedar branches, and found bird’s nests among them, and make an arrangement on a table in my home that symbolizes the year that we have had- as individuals and a family.  I set things out that will mark the challenges that we have faced and how we navigated them, and even mementos of loss from the previous year.  If you don’t have the time or inclination to make a life table, a simple arrangement of items, like votive candles, or crystals arranged and dedicated to reminding you of what your successes have been will work.  This reminder of what you have done with your year can cheer you on as you continue your climb to the dreamed of heights of success.  If you can’t remember -look through your calendar over the last year, or through the pictures to jog your memory.

Now a few times between the creating of the display, and the New Year, light the candles, grab your favorite mug and fill it with something warm and enjoy matching your dreams of the future with your success from the past.
