When we think of someone who has passion, we think of someone who is confident and who has focused  intent, which can be a  good thing.  But perhaps for many of us, a better strategy is to gently follow your interests. You don’t need to have a confident, extreme passion to go forward. Instead, try following what you are interested in and what ignites your curiosity.

Sometimes following your passion can  feel too big, and it can be so much more relaxing to simply examine what  ignites your curiosity. It can feel softer and even kinder . . . and it often takes you in directions that you hadn’t expected. It can also open doors in  wondrous ways. Sometimes the rewards are greater than you can imagine.

In a commencement speech at Stanford University, Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computer, talked about following his curiosity and interests. He said that just before dropping out of college, he decided to take a calligraphy course, which seemed interesting to him. He said at the time it seemed to have no practical application in his life. It wasn’t his passion. He was just curious about it. However, ten years later when he created the first Macintosh computer, he designed it with beautiful typography (fonts). It has followed that, for the most part, all personal computers now have splendid typography as a result. He said that the value of that college class wasn’t apparent at the time, but in retrospect it was incredibly valuable to the evolution of personal computers.

So, ask yourself, what are you interested in? Is there anything in life that you are curious about? It doesn’t have to have any practical value in your life… but following it will open a door and whose to say how many other doors open as a result Having the uncertainty of low self-esteem can allow for explorations in areas that you might not otherwise pursue

Much love,
Denise
