When I was a young girl, I would often be found directly beside my mother, or if truth be told…probably a step behind her, hiding behind her skirt. As a young child I was extremely shy, I would speak when spoken to but would never be the first one to initiate a conversation, especially among new people or heaven forbid raise my hand in class to openly share amongst my peers.

As a child and early adolescent I loved to play the piano and still do to this day, it is a skill that I have retained over the years and my love of music from an early age could well be the voice that I personally felt I could not own in the physical. My piano teacher would prepare me for exams and from a theoretical point of view, I always excelled with outstanding results. However, the one thing that would always defeat me was aural tests!  I would have to sing and this scared the living daylights out of me! My beautiful and ever patient teacher would do her best to help prepare me and sing along with me as we hummed and sang our way up the octaves together (although my voice was as quiet as a mouse!). Despite everything she tried I just could never bring myself to activate my voice. At home in the safety of my own environment it was a completely different story, as I felt comfortable to be my unique self and own my truth whole heartedly. I even used to attempt singing opera to my dearly departed pet Labrador!

The patterns and limiting beliefs we get ourselves into as young children can often grow along with us into adulthood until we either accept those patterns and begrudgingly live with them or we choose to draw a line in the sand and make a definitive choice that the ways of the past no longer need to equal the future.

For many years I didn’t like the sound of my own voice and would cringe at having to listen to a playback recording or worse still see myself on camera! I once heard a motivational speaker use the line “if you can’t bring yourself to listen to the sound of your own voice, then how do you expect that others will want to listen to you either?”.

Over time I have I come to terms with the sound of my own voice and realising that I am worthy to be heard. I know many women in particular may relate to this “silencing of the voice” through many past life experiences where our voices were muted. Each and every one of us has our own unique story to tell, our own unique take on life and our own unique way of self expression. I know that a part of my mission on this earth especially at this pivotal time on the planet is to help inspire and empower others, particularly women and help them to see their worth and to help them reclaim their personal power.

Through the powerful teachings of Soul Coaching(R) and other Linn Academy training together with years of personal spiritual growth I began to find my voice and start to “sing my own song” through life’s journey. What I also discovered was using the voice need not only be in the spoken word but also the written word and both are powerful ways of activating communication and self expression.

For me, the ability to start reclaiming my voice has enabled me to uncover the treasure within. From that shy little girl that once was, I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would one day fly solo across the other side of the world and become an international speaker. This is exactly what I did last year at the Linn Academy conference in Sacramento and let me tell you how heart opening it felt to discover deep within, the treasure that I had searched for all my life –  that of my voice. I discovered that my voice was not silenced, it was merely being played at a lower frequency just waiting to be reclaimed by me.

Just like we each have our own song to sing, we each have our own treasure just waiting to be found within. When we gift ourselves the opportunity to dig a little deeper into our soul we discover that all along we have a treasure chest of abilities, skills, talents and dreams just waiting to be unleashed.

Our Founder, Denise Linn states that “one of the fastest ways to replenish the reserves of the soul is to spend time in nature”. This is one of the aspects of Soul Coaching(R) that I love the most as it allows you to slow down and connect to the world around you and hear the messages of your soul. We live in such a fast paced, often chaotic world these days that we can forget the simple things like spending time in nature to revitalise the spirit and get back to the basics of what truly matters in our lives.

During my Advanced Soul Coaching training in the gorgeous Blue Mountains in Australia, I was fortunate to discover a Lyrebird out in nature and I listened to the significant message this bird had for me and he said “listen to the song in your heart, and let that be the voice of your soul that the world hears”.

So, I invite you to consider what treasure is inside of you that is ready to be reclaimed and used for the greater good of all. Bounty is awaiting you in many forms and all you need do is reach within.
